Innovators - Year 4, 5 & 6

Croeso i Dosbarth Innovators

Blwyddyn 4, 5 a 6 efo Miss Cole a Mrs Martin

Who are we?

The Innovators are a mixed Year 4, 5 and 6 class.

We are respectful, kind, and curious, and we always apply our best effort to all that we do. We ask BIG questions and lead our own learning to find the answers! We have growth mindsets and believe that with effort, we can improve in everything that we do!

Important Information:

School Times - The register is taken at 9am. Please be in school before this time.

PE - PE is on a Wednesday morning. Please come to school in your PE kit on this day.

Outdoor Learning - The Innovators have their Outdoor Learning session on Monday mornings with Mrs Cherina this half term. We also try and utilise the outdoors as much as possible during our topic sessions.

SeeSaw - We use the SeeSaw app to liaise with our parents. This app is free to download. Please ensure you have access to Seesaw as this is where all of our messages/ notices and work are shared.

Reading Books - Books will be sent home and will also be read and discussed in school. Children are encouraged to read at home as much as possible and we would ask parents to listen to their children read and complete their Reading Logs.

Reading Days - We culture a love for reading in school. We have ERIC (Everybody Reading in Class) time after lunch, 1-1 reading opportunities weekly with the teacher, as well as access to our new library cabin!

Homework - A Homework grid of activities is sent home via Seesaw at the beginning of each term. Children are encourage to complete as many of the tasks as they can and to share their work on Seesaw.

Responsibilities - We involve our learners in school decisions. The Year 4, 5 and 6 pupils are encouraged to join one of our various pupil groups to support school improvements. Children can be a part of the School Council, the Eco Committee, Reading Champions, and the Criw Cymraeg. We also encourage our Year 6 children to apply to be one of our Head Pupils.

Topic Work - At our school, we explore three exciting topics each year - one per term. Each topic begins with a problem, question, or challenge, which the children and staff work together to plan and investigate. This approach encourages curiousity, independence, and collaboration as the children take ownership of their learning journey.

Every topic leads to a final outcome or showcase, where pupils share their learning with others - whether it's presenting to classmates, parents, or the wider community.

Autumn Term 2025: Me, Myself, and I

This term our topic focusses on identity, relationships, and belonging. During our pupil voice session, learners posed their own big questions and suggested learning paths to help explore them. The topic is divided into three connected themes:

All About Me – We'll be learning about the human body and brain, as well as exploring the five ways to well-being to help us understand how to look after ourselves inside and out.

Connecting with Others – We'll consider how our lives compare with those of other children around the world, celebrating our differences and uniqueness.

My Place in the World – We'll investigate our locality and what it means to be a citizen of Wales, learning how to use our voices to make a positive difference in the world.
