We have an active eco-committee set up at our school who organise various events for the whole school throughout the year.
We meet regularly to organise eco-days in which the whole school works together on activities linked to the eco-schools award.
We are currently on our silver award and are working towards achieving the Green Flag award by the end of this academic year!
We have set up an action plan of targets for this year and are working hard to achieve them. We involve the local community with our projects.
There are nine topics of the eco-school programme which we work on together. These are:
2. Waste Minimisation
5. School Grounds
6. Global Citizenship
9. Health, Well-being and Food
These nine interlinked topics help schools to develop a more rounded approach to Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship.
We recently took part in an eco-morning in which the whole school took part in improving our school grounds.
We were very fortunate to have some parent helpers for the morning in which new Spring flowers were planted in the pots around the school. Another wonderful activity was to use newspaper as a pot to grow some sunflowers. What a creative way to grow a plant!
Children also took part in creating posters to teach others about the importance of recycling.
The foundation phase children worked in small groups on a recycling sorting activity and used their handprints to create an eco-tree.
Here are the members of our schools Eco-committee for this year. They are responsible for organising Eco events throughout the year and for helping the school work towards achieving the next stage of the Eco award.
This term, the committee have met to discuss areas that we need to improve upon across the whole school and have organised an Eco themed morning for next week. Pictures to follow next week!
