Class 4 - Years 5 & 6, Mr Roberts

Croeso i Dosbarth 4. Welcome to class 4!

We all work together in our classroom to make sure that our learning is exciting and enjoyable. We are taught by Mr Roberts who is helped on Wednesday and Thursday mornings by Mrs Wilkins.

We learn many topics throughout the year and take part in as many different activities both within and outside of school as possible.
We work closely together to ensure that our learning is always fun, imaginative and creative.

Please enjoy looking through the photographs of our class.

Autumn Term 2

The children returned to school after the half term holiday and worked together to plan this terms topic. They decided that it would be a wonderful idea to base this terms topic on the very popular TV show ‘I’m a celebrity. Get Me Out Of Here!’ This year, due to the pandemic, the show is being held in Gwrych castle which is just down the road from our school! The children have planned lots of fun activities for the next few weeks whilst the show is on. Watch this space! 😄

Week 1-Where is Wales & who are the hosts?

The children started off the topic by finding out about the two hosts of the show-Ant and Dec. They used the Internet to find out about them in preparation for writing a biography. They even watched their dance routine of their famous song ‘Let’s get ready to rumble!’

The class received a letter from a TV company asking them to write a fact file about Gwrych castle for the celebrities and hosts to read.

In our PE lesson, the children worked in small groups to create 3 minute fitness routines for the celebrities to use when they’re in the castle.

Earlier in the week, the children took part in a range of activities outside for National Outdoor Classroom Day. They learnt about different types of clouds, created mathematical equations using materials gathered from the yard/field and then created faces out of the materials. They ended the day by going back outside to identify the many different trees we have on our school grounds.

Week 2-Who are this years celebrities?

We started the week by finding out about this years celebrities who are taking part in the show. We drew portraits of them and used the Internet to find out some information in order to write riddles about them.

We were all very excited after receiving a phone call from ITV to go on the This Morning show to talk to Phil and Holly about out topic! It was wonderfully surreal! 😊🤩

Week 3- Road Safety & Anti-Bullying week

During the 3rd week, we took part in many activities to learn about the importance of Road Safety and Anti-Bullying. We came into school wearing odd socks as it was Odd Socks Day 2020. This helped us to understand and celebrate that we are all different.

For Road Safety week, we took part in a traffic survey outside the school and recorded the results in a bar chart. We also created posters using the famous cover of the Beatles Abbey Road album including this year’s important safety message of ‘No Need to Speed’!

Week 4- Is Gwrych Castle a good location for this year’s I’m a celebrity show?

We have been learning about the location of this years show - Gwrych castle in Abergele. We have drawn pictures and used watercolours to paint pictures of the castle in the style of the Welsh artist Kyffin Williams.

In our English lessons, we discussed the ‘fors’ and ‘against’ for the show being held this year in Wales and wrote a balanced argument, giving our personal opinion about it.

In our PE lesson, we held our very own I’m a Celebrity challenge using our orienteering skills to locate the 12 stars on the school grounds.

Welcome back!

it is wonderful to get back to school after the lockdown.
This term, class 4’s topic is called ‘The Pharoahs’. The children have been enjoying learning about Ancient Egypt. Please enjoy looking through the photographs of the work so far this term.

       Teach Active-Using Maths outdoors!

Every Friday morning we have our maths lesson outside and keep fit at the same time!🏃🏻🏃‍♀️😅

                     Twenty One!

This week, we played the game ‘Twenty One’ which involved us multiplying and dividing numbers by 10, 100 and 1000. We had to run to a bucket to pick out a card with a sum on it and bring it back to our group. We worked together to calculate the answer and checked it with a calculator. If we got it correct we received points depending on what we multiplied or divided it by, e.g. multiplied/divided by 10=1 point, by 100=2 points and by 1000=3 points. The first team to get to 21 points was the winner!

             Ancient Egyptian Artefacts

The children have been carefully looking at Egyptian artefacts this term and have drawn these fantastic pictures of them.

              Egyptian Creation Story

The children have been reading about the Egyptian Creation story this term. They designed a storyboard and then created some animation to retell the story to others.

        Ancient Egyptian Minecraft World

The children have used Minecraft to create their very own Ancient Egyptian Worlds. Can you spot the Ancient Pyramids, the river Nile and the Egyptian mummies?!

           Ancient Egyptian Art Work

The children have been looking at Egyptian paintings and have created their very own pictures in that style. Here are some examples of the children’s work.

            National Fitness Day 2020

The children were very active for National Fitness Day this year. They started the day with a workout with Joe Wicks followed by some skipping in the afternoon. They ended the day lovely and relaxed with a bit of yoga.

              Health and Well-being

The children have PE lessons every Friday afternoon. They enjoy playing a wide range of team games and are enjoying using our new sports equipment.

                    Bikeability

The Year 6 children completed their levels 1 and 2 of their bikeability award this term. Da iawn pawb!🚴🏻‍♂️🚴🏻‍♀️

Global Handwashing Day 2020

The children enjoyed using the GlitterBug lotion and the UV lamp to learn about the importance of hand hygiene for Global Handwashing Day this year.🤚🏻🦠

Ancient Egyptian Gods

The children have been learning about the Ancient Egyptian Gods this term and have painted these amazing pictures of them! 😊🎨

Ancient Egyptian Topic Day

The children ended the first Autumn term with an Ancient Egyptian topic day. Some of the children came to school dressed as Pharoahs! The whole class took part in some fun activities throughout the day. They made Egyptian flatbread and ended the day with a fun (but very competitive) quiz.

I wonder what next terms topic will be?! 🤔....................🏰🕸🐍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿😊
